Staying Healthy In The New Normal
Jumping into a different routine can have some hiccups. Here are 10 quick tips to help you stay physically and mentally healthy while you navigate your new remote workdays.
Eat when you’re hungry.: Listen to your body. Is your stomach grumbling? Are you losing your temper rather quickly? You guessed it! Time to grab a healthy snack.
Meal (and snack) prep: I know this takes precious time and some planning, but it’s worth it. When you’re hungry you’ll have a healthy choice ready to go.
Drink lots of water: Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! It’s easy to forget when you’re stuck at home, so don’t be afraid to drink more H2O than usual.
Get enough sleep: There is a strong correlation between sleep deprivation and mental clarity. As tempting as it is to binge a TV show or scroll through endless articles, make sure to set limits and get the proper 8 hours of shut-eye each night.
Get moving: Neighborhood run. Floor yoga. Living room dance party. You name it! Whatever it is, just get your heart pumping and try to sweat a little (emphasis on the try).
Get creative: You’re busy and a workout isn’t always possible. Take one of your meetings while walking around the neighborhood or do an hourly lap around the living room.
Stretch it out: Sitting all day can be taxing on your body so be sure to stretch at least three times a day. Your back, neck, shoulders, quads, glutes and posture will thank you.
Stay social: Virtual time with friends and family can make a huge impact on mental health and general well being.
Breathe: When we start feel stressed, we unconsciously hold our breath. Be mindful of when your breath is fast and shallow. Pause, hit the reset button and take some deep belly breaths.
Find time for YOU: Read a book. Start an online course. Do something that engages you. 30 minutes here and there can get your mind off everything else.
Let go: We can’t control everything in life. Not everything goes as planned so take a deep breath and go with it. Tomorrow is a new day and we’re all in it together.
